Nā Oli no ke Kula ʻO Nāhiʻenaʻena

Mele no Nāhi’ena’ena

‘Ena ē, ‘ena ē

‘Ena’ena mai e ka lani

‘O Nāhi’ena’ena e kū nei i ka malu

Kū ka pihe ikuā i luna

o nā pua mōhala iā ‘oe

Iā `oe ka ‘ena a ka makani ua ha’ao a’o Lele

‘Ena nā pua iā Nāhi’ena’ena ka lani

E hea aku mākou iā ‘oe

(E) Nāhi’ena’ena, eō mai ē

This chant is done to honor Princess Nāhi΄ena΄ena. It speaks of her name and how the children are growing and learning in honor of her.

Kau e ka wena o ke ao i ka lani

He wekeweke i ka pō pilipuka

‘O ka’u ia e huli alo nei i ka ulu ē

Hō mai lā kō mālamalama

I ka honua nei i ka mauli ola

Ua ao Hawai’i ke ‘ōlino nei

Mai ka pi’ina a ka welona a ka lā

Ka ‘ike kōli’u mai o kikilo mai

‘O ka’u nō ia `o ka pūlama

A pa’a ma ka ipu o ka ‘ike ē

‘Ae, ua ao ē

This chant speaks of the enlightenment of Hawai’i. As before the times of the arrival of the first explorers and missionaries, Hawai’i being isolated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean did not have knowledge of the rest of the world other than Polynesia. After the arrival of the first explorers and missionaries Hawai’i was enlightened to the rest of the world.

ka pihe o ke aouli i ka lani

‘Ena’ena ke aloha e pu’upu’u mai nei

Pa’upa’u nō ka hana ē

Pa’ū ke kino i ka ua Ma’a’a

‘Ā mai nō ka lama i Kaua’ula (ē)

He ‘ūlāleo ē...i ka malu ulu ho’i ē

This is an entrance chant done by the keiki to ask permission to come into the classroom.

This chant is the response to the entrance chant. This chant is done by the kumu and it gives permission for the keiki to enter the classroom.
