(E) Nāhi’ena’ena, eō mai ē
This chant is done to honor Princess Nāhi΄ena΄ena. It speaks of her name and how the children are growing and learning in honor of her.

This chant speaks of the enlightenment of Hawai’i. As before the times of the arrival of the first explorers and missionaries, Hawai’i being isolated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean did not have knowledge of the rest of the world other than Polynesia. After the arrival of the first explorers and missionaries Hawai’i was enlightened to the rest of the world.

He ‘ūlāleo ē...i ka malu ulu ho’i ē
This is an entrance chant done by the keiki to ask permission to come into the classroom.

This chant is the response to the entrance chant. This chant is done by the kumu and it gives permission for the keiki to enter the classroom.
